WORKSHOPS
Workshop 1
Improved Soil Management and Irrigation
Our ability to produce food and fibre is under threat from the potential unavailability of fossil fuel for the manufacture of fertiliser. The cost of fertiliser has risen since May last year from $500 per tonne to $1500 per tonne currently. Add to this the increasing scarcity and cost of water, irrigation soils will become more and more a part of the solution to sustainable irrigated production.
There are innovative technological solutions such as applying biologically active and balanced foliar spray fertilisers, compost as a biologically rich organic material and the use of biochar to enhance the productive capacity of our irrigated soils. These areas will be covered in this workshop so come along and see what you or your customers can do to improve soils, yeilds and water use efficiency.
Workshop 2
Subsurface Drip on Dairy
The Dairy sector is one of the greatest users of water in Australian Agriculture today. Subsurface drip irrigation offers the potential to substantially reduce water usage in the Diary Industry whilst maintaining or even increasing dry matter production. This workshop will explore some of the technical hurdles to making this a reality, including the latest scientific research from DPI and the University of Melbourne. Case Studies from farmers already 'doing it' will highlight the benefits and the cost effectiveness of SDI for the Diary sector.
FORUMS
Forum 1
Metering Forum
As part of the National Water Initiative, national non-urban water meter standards will soon be introduced to standardise and improve water management and the accuracy of non-urban water meters across Australia. Presented by a panel of metering experts, this workshop will detail the impact of the standards for all sectors of the non urban water industry. Relevant for water meter manufacturers, state government, bulk water providers and irrigation companies.
