Refer to Table 1 Channel seepage
remediation decision matrix for a summary of groundwater intervention
techniques. This section discusses remediation methods that aim to
intervene with the groundwater flow outside of the channel prism
rather than prevent channel seepage. These methods aim to reduce
the impacts of seepage such as waterlogging and land salinity on
adjacent land.
Some of these measures can result in a lowering of the watertable
beneath the channel, which can actually increase the seepage rate
by increasing the static head difference between the water level
in the channel and the groundwater level.
